Problématique Humaine

The Necessary Revolution

The World Summit on Sustainable Development (Earth Summit 2002) affirmed UN commitment to 'full implementation' of Agenda 21. (Which hasn't happened.)

The financial and political misdeeds of the last 20 years, are driven by our misunderstanding of what wealth is and where our responsibilities lie. In 1982 the problems we now face were clearly defined.

The misleading propaganda we've all been fed since childhood, and that we still believe, makes it difficult to see what's wrong, or to imagine ways to improve the situation.

What is our relationship with the Earth?

Humanity has become the dominant force changing the Earth, but we refuse to take responsibility for what we are doing.

Prof. James Gustave Speth says that to save the Planet we need to undertake EIGHT Transitions, each of which require us to adopt a completely new appreciation of what's important.

The dominant patterns of production and consumption are destroying the Planet, our Home. We have choices to make, that involve a very serious changes in how with THINK and in what we DO.

Each of the eight transitions has a local element. Local action in Street Groups and similar organisations can do much to help us change lifestyles and to live more lightly on the Earth.

Speth refers us to the Earth Charter

A representation of the "Problématique Humaine".
There are multiple problems and they are all interrelated. The solution to any one problem might make other problems worse. A system wide view needs to be adopted.
